– The federal government has been tasked to tackle the killings by suspected herdsmen in some parts of the country

– The charge was given by Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta state, who says the country needs a stronger voice from the federal government

– He asks the federal government to give a decisive directive to security agencies for the attacks to be reduced to the barest minimum

Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta state has lamented killings by suspected herdsmen in some parts of Nigeria, adding that the country needs a stronger voice from the federal government in order to tackle the menace.

Speaking in Oleh, Isoko South local government area of Delta state during the 2018 edition of Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) Day celebration, the governor said a decisive directive should be given to security agencies by the federal government, Vanguard reports.

TRACK NEWS gathers that Okowa, who stated that the government is either reluctant or powerless in tackling the menace, added that in order to reduce the attacks to the barest minimum, the directive must be given by the federal government.

He said: “Until that strong directive comes, the security agencies may not be able to do more than they are currently doing. This is the time to work with God. This is the time to spend more time with God.

“Every Christian should pray for Nigeria so that the will of God will manifest. We must be brave. There are a lot of challenges but, we must call on the power of God because God will stop the herdsmen.”

Chairman of CAN in the state, Apostle Okorote, decried the rate at which Christians and pastors were being “haunted, kidnapped and killed night and day by kidnappers, Boko Haram insurgents and AK 47-carrying herdsmen under a federal government that is either powerless or reluctant to tackle the problem.”

Meanwhile, TRACK NEWS previously reported that the Nigeria Police Force, Plateau state command, arrested 21 persons in connection with the killings and unrest in Plateau state.

The Plateau state police paraded the suspects on Monday, July 2, at the OPSH headquarters in Jos.

Fourteen of the suspects were arrested at the scene of the violent protest that followed the Barkin Ladi’s killings while 11 others were arrested in connection with the killings.
