One Year of Stewardship: Bayelsa Health Commissioner Highlights Progress

~ lauds Gov. Diri, says health sector moving forward

Prof. Seiyefa Brisibe, the Honourable Commissioner Ministry of Health Bayelsa State has highlighted progress in the Ministry of Health since his assumption of office as Commissioner.

He highlighted at the state owned Radio station Glory FM, that the government of Senator Douye Diri has achieved remarkable strides in the health sector as he keeps on thanking Bayelsans for enormous support.

He shared important improvements such as quality health care service delivery, medical assistances, and better outcomes for professional development, a well structured referral systems linking primary, secondary, and tertiary healthcare centers across the state, and the renovation and upgrade of several secondary and tertiary health facilities with increasing capacity and quality of health care, and other areas.

“What we did at that primary level is to ensure that we have that critical infrastructure set up, we went into partnership with a lot of organizations and then of course also prioritise government spending in that space” he said

According to Prof. Brisibe, about 50 primary healthcare facilities within this period were upgraded to tier 2, meaning that there is renovation, an alternative source of light and also there is some level of fencing and the Ministry was able to partner with partners to deliver the projects.

The State Health Commissioner stated the important improvements of partnerships highlighting that the Ministry was able to renovate the Ofoni Health center, the Ekeremor Health center, the Amassoma Health Center, Akaba Health Center, Sabagreia, Okoloba, Brass Health center and then Brass Maintown and also in constituency Three Health center upgraded among others through partnerships.

Prof. Brisibe thanking various callers for their contributions stated that the Ministry lines are open always for Bayelsans to continue to contribute to the healthcare development of the State.

He thanked the various partners, Megastar, MTN foundation, and others for their collaborations for the upgrade of facilities in Swali, Amassoma, Akaba and other communities across the State.

He stated that the Ministry also ungraded the Agbere-Odoni Cottage Hospital with modern facilities and then renovated and equipped the Aisha Buhari Mother and Child Hospital in Azikoro town.

“So these are the type of things that we did at the primary level to see that there is renovation, upgrade of facilities at the primary healthcare facility and also at the secondary level”.

He added that the target of the Ministry annually is to be able to get two secondary care facilities in each of the Senatorial districts up to speed for service to the people.

He commended the Military men, Dan Etete, Sen. Dimaro foundations and other individual partners for investing in providing support for the healthcare development in the state.

He lauded the Governor His Excellency Senator Douye Diri graciously, for his firm support for the development of the healthcare and ensuring that as a compassionate leader, no Bayelsan would pass through stress, especially in critical cases approved the establishment of a Haemodialysis center as flagship program and a project at the tertiary care level at the centre of the State.

Prof. Brisibe assured Bayelsans that all their earnings for more development of the health sector of the State will gradually be treated as he encouraged everyone to continue in their support for the state government ably led by His Excellency Senator Douye Diri and his deputy, Sen. Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo PhD and other well meaning stakeholders for the development of the States’ health sector.
