The Managing Director of OpenSea Gas Limited, Mr. Preye Braah, has emphasized that Nigeria’s Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) sector possesses significant potential to drive the nation’s energy future if supported by the right policies and strategic partnerships.
Braah made this remark during the 2025 National LPG Conference and Exhibition, which took place on September 24 and 25 at the Sheraton Hotel in Ikeja, Lagos State. The event, themed “Navigating the Future of LPG: Challenges, Opportunities and Collaborations,” brought together key industry leaders, investors, and policymakers to deliberate on the growth of the LPG market in Nigeria.
As both the Managing Director of OpenSea Gas and the Chairman of the Bayelsa State Chapter of the Nigerian Association of Liquefied Petroleum Gas Marketers (NALPGAM), Braah highlighted the transformative role LPG can play in deepening access to cleaner energy, generating employment, and advancing sustainable development across the country.
He noted that LPG is not only an alternative to traditional cooking fuels but also a viable driver of economic activity when efficiently harnessed. According to him, strategic partnerships and supportive government policies are critical to overcoming existing barriers in the sector, including infrastructure gaps, affordability issues, and distribution challenges.
“The LPG industry holds immense potential for Nigeria’s energy future. With the right partnerships and policies, we can deepen access, create jobs, and ensure a cleaner, more sustainable energy pathway for our people,” Braah said.
During the conference, Braah joined other stakeholders in discussing pressing challenges affecting the LPG sector, such as the need for expanded infrastructure, improved regulatory frameworks, and increased investment in supply chains. Participants also explored opportunities to build stronger collaborations that can accelerate growth and enhance accessibility for millions of Nigerians who still rely on traditional biomass for cooking.
His participation also reflected Bayelsa State’s increasing involvement in national energy dialogues, underscoring the region’s contribution to promoting LPG adoption and advancing Nigeria’s broader clean energy agenda. Industry experts at the event stressed that expanding LPG usage would not only reduce environmental degradation but also improve public health by limiting indoor air pollution caused by firewood and kerosene.
The deliberations further highlighted that Nigeria’s LPG consumption levels remain far below global averages despite the country’s vast natural gas reserves. Analysts noted that bridging this gap requires coordinated actions from both government and private investors, including the development of storage and distribution facilities, targeted subsidies, and public awareness campaigns to drive adoption among households and businesses.
The 2025 conference served as a platform to reaffirm the government’s ongoing commitment to transitioning towards cleaner fuels and to encourage private sector players to invest in infrastructure that can support long-term growth. Participants agreed that the LPG sector could contribute significantly to Nigeria’s economic diversification agenda, reducing dependence on crude oil revenues while positioning the country as a key player in Africa’s clean energy transition.
Braah’s message reinforced the growing consensus among stakeholders that a well-structured LPG industry, driven by innovation, partnerships, and supportive regulation, has the capacity to deliver jobs, improve energy security, and enhance Nigeria’s global competitiveness in the energy market.
