Ibekimi Oriamaja Reports

Desmond Gudyu, a security guard with Corporate Victoria Gardens Security Company, is accused of punching a 26-year-old man, Akeem Nuhu, to death during an altercation on Lugard Avenue in Ikoyi, Lagos State.

Gudyu, who was hired to guard a nearby building, was said to have housed Nuhu in his security post after the latter agreed to pay him rent.

On Monday, October 10, Nuhu, who worked as a motor boy for a pure water company, failed to pay the agreed-upon sum.

This allegedly sparked an argument between them, during which Gudyu allegedly punched Nuhu, who fell and died.

“The security guard was the only one staying in that house,” said Ayo Ipadeola, a contractor who worked in the area. Nuhu, the victim, worked for a pure water company and had nowhere to stay. That is why he agreed with Gudyu to sleep in his security post and pay him for it.

“So he’d get up in the morning, go to work, and come home in the evening.” However, when the incident occurred on Monday evening, the security guard accused Nuhu of owing him rent, and they began to argue. During the process, he slightly punched Nuhu. He collapsed and went unconscious.”

According to a source, the victim was rushed to a police hospital in Falomo, where he died.

“He died around 7 a.m. the next day,” he said. His body was taken to the Federal Medical Centre’s morgue in Ebute-Metta for autopsy.”

According to a trader who spoke on the condition of anonymity, Gudyu’s security company reported the incident to police.

“I am aware that the house’s owner does not live there. “They only hired Gudyu to protect the place and had no idea he was renting out his space,” she added.

Benjamin Hundeyin, the state Police Public Relations Officer, confirmed the incident.

“The suspect has been arrested and is being investigated,” he said.
