The Osun State Governor, Gboyega Oyetola is set to officially welcome over ten thousand members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who are defecting to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Tracknews understands the defectors said to be 10,423 will be formally received into the APC at a rally scheduled to hold tomorrow at the Freedom Park, Osogbo, the state capital.

The defectors are from various wards, local government areas and federal constituencies in Osun State.

Speaking on the development which is coming a few days before the July 16 governorship election in the state, Governor Oyetola said it is a sign that the people of the state, trust the ruling party and the current administration and want it to continue in power.

“It’s the dawn of a new and happy day in Osun. We trust our citizens and residents to discern that it is finally time for Osun to stand together and do what is right and necessary to lift our state,” he said.

Similarly, the Chairman of the APC in Osun State, Prince Gboyega Famodun, commended the defection of the persons and welcomes them to a peaceful party.

“We welcome the new members to APC, a place of peace and tranquillity,” he said.

The Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Timothy Owoeye who also doubles as the Chairman of the Defectors Care Committee for the APC in the state commended the good works of Governor Oyetola which he said is responsible for such a large defection into the party.

“No other governor has been able to deplete the ranks of the opposition in one fell swoop like this. Governor Oyetola’s calm mien, focussed leadership and determination to change the way government is run are some of the reasons given by the defectors for joining the APC.”

The welcoming event for the defectors is expected to be attended by many party stalwarts both within and outside the state, including the APC National Secretary, Otunba Iyiola Omisore.
