Oyo artisans, traders trained on business management, ICT

Scores of artisans, traders and farmers have benefitted from the Batch B training and empowerment programme facilitated by Senator Teslim Folarin through Federal Cooperative College.

The training attracted participants from Atiba Oyo East local government area with all required materials provided for them.

Folarin, the All Progressives Congress (APC) lawmaker representing Oyo central, said he facilitated the training to empower his constituents and expose them to the necessities of applying ICT techniques in their businesses.

Head of Department, Cooperative Economic and Management Federal Cooperative College Oyo, Ogunreku Akinola, said the participants were exposed to rudiments of cooperative governance and how it helps in the promotion of sustainable development principle of organisation and self-reliance as a business owner.

A facilitator, Mrs. Christiana Ojo, said the participants were also taught effective communication and how to use social media to make more customers through online marketing and branding.

One of the participants, Usman Abdulwaheed, from Agunpopo area of Oyo town said: “Though i am a teacher in private school but I have learnt new things during this training and I know if i apply it to my creative abilities, I will be able to earn more and live a better life.”

A graduate and entrepreneur from Oke Apo area in Oyo East Local Government Area, Okanlawon Abdulrasheed, said: “I just joined a cooperative society last week and this training has further exposed me what i need to know about the operations of cooperative society and how we can use it to raise capital to develop our business.

“Also, we were taught how we can package and market our products online as well as how we can effectively communicate to win our customers.”

At the end of the one -week training, participants were given a start -up fund and registered for NHIS.
