Three traditional rulers from Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State have met their untimely demise in a fatal road accident that occurred on Friday night, thereby throwing the state into mourning.

The monarchs, identified as the OLODOGBO of Odogbo, the Onibowula of Bowula, and the Alayetoro of Ayetoro, were reportedly on their way to a social function in a nearby community when their vehicle collided head-on with a commercial Scania Truck along the Ogbomoso-Oyo Expressway.

According to the Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) in Oyo State, Joshua Adekanye, the accident occurred at Aje Iye in Oriire Local Government Area.

The collision involved a Benz E230 with registration number OLODOGBO and a commercial Scania Truck with registration number 301 XF.

Two of the monarchs died on the spot, while the third passed away a few hours later at the Ladoke Akintola University Teaching Hospital (LAUTECH), where he was receiving treatment. Six other passengers were also involved in the crash, with three surviving and currently undergoing treatment at LAUTECH Teaching Hospital.

“It was a head-on collision involving a private and commercial vehicle along Ogbomoso-Oyo expressway,” confirmed FRSC Sector Commander Adekanye. He further stated that the remains of the deceased monarchs have been deposited at the morgue of LAUTECH Teaching Hospital.
