PDP chieftain abducted in Akwa Ibom

TRACKING>>Uyo – CHIEFTAIN of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in Akwa Ibom.state and the Senior Special Adviser on Security Matters to Governor Udom Emmanuel, Capt Iniobong Ekong (Retd) has been abducted.

Ekong was said to have been picked up midnight by soldiers allegedly sent by the GOC of the 6 Division of the Nigerian Army, purportedly following a petition written by Senator Godswill Akpabio.

The Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Charles Udoh , Akwa Ibom State confirmed this to newsmen on election at about 8:15am on Saturday election day.

Udoh disclosed that Capt. Ekong who was picked up at the night is being held incommunicado at an unknown location in Port Harcourt, Rivers state.

He recalled that, The COAS has said that the Military had no role to play in the elections.
He questioned when it has become the duty of the Army to investigate petitions, arrest and detain innocent people.

However when newsmen contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Odiko MacDon, he said the police was yet to receive such information.

He however promised to make necessary contacts and swing into investigations.

Meanwhile eligible voters within Uyo metropolis appear very ready for the Presidential and National Assembly poll.

Many voters came out as early as 6:30am at the various polling units along Ikot Ekpene road, Afaha Ube Itam road, Asutan Street, Abak Road, Oron Road; Idoro Road and Wellington Bassey Way Uyo, where the government house is located.

Police operatives were also spotted as early as 7:00am patrolling major Streets of Uyo expected to ensure that things are normal.

However in some polling units along Ekpenya and Asutan Streets Electoral officials did not arrive by 8:30am while at, Ikpa road bus stop unit 16 ward 2 Uyo materials arrived as early as 8:00am
