Ibekimi Oriamaja Reports
Despite the turmoil inside the party, Iyorchia Ayu, the national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has been urged not to quit by the sociopolitical organization Benue Advocates for Good Governance (BAGG).
According to Track News, certain party officials, particularly those who support Rivers State governor Nyesom Wike, have requested that Ayu resign because the party’s presidential candidate is from the North.
In a statement made available to journalists on Saturday in response to the development and signed by its National Coordinator, Hon. Terngu Aze, and its National Publicity Secretary, Hon. Taiyol Terhemba Abraham, the group praised Ayu’s bravery for continuing to serve as the party’s chairman.
They characterized those clamoring for Ayu’s resignation as ignorant victims as well as desperate agents of destabilization.
We support Dr. Iyorchia Ayu, the PDP National Chairman’s decision to continue in his position, the statement continues. This choice was made with bravery, pragmatism, and constitutionalism in mind.
“We boldly assert that those demanding for his resignation are not only funded destabilization agents, but also ignorant victims.
Furthermore, how can you claim to want peace while bringing preconditions to the negotiation table? They claim that before they can talk, Ayu must retire.
Is that how you look for peace? Isn’t that an act of war against the party?
