PDP Crisis: ‘I’ll Not Leave Office In October’ – Secondus

The embattled National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Prince Uche Secondus, has vowed not to leave office in October.
Recall that Secondus was elected as PDP chairman in December 2017 and his tenure of four years is supposed to end in December 2021.

But at a stakeholders’ meeting held two weeks ago, it was resolved that the tenure of the current National Working Committee (NWC) should end in October to resolve the crisis rocking the party.

However, a source close to Secondus told Daily Trust on Sunday that the embattled chairman has vowed to complete his tenure of four years, and not leave before his tenure elapses.

The source added that Secondus said he would only accept to leave office in October if the party’s constitution is amended.

He added that Secondus said he must complete his tenure of four years in line with the provisions of the party’s constitution.

The source said the party chairman changed his mind and rejected the October deadline after consulting with some critical stakeholders.

The source said: “Secondus has not agreed with that arrangement. They agreed earlier but later when he reviewed and consulted his advisers, he resolved not to agree. But he has not made it public yet.

“He is insisting that his tenure is going to expire in December, 2021, so he has seen no reasons why some people will meet and suggest that to him without any constitutional review. He said he will not agree if they don’t amend the party’s constitution.”
