Operatives of Eagle-Net Special Squad attached to Delta State Police Command have arrested one Israel Akita, ‘m’, with one locally fabricated cut-to-size gun, three live cartridges in Ugolo Community in Okpe Local Council of the state.

Confirming the development, spokesperson for the command, Bright Edafe, said the suspect was arrested during a search of his residence.

He said the police acted on credible information from sources to fish out the suspect from his hideout.

Edafe added that the police on November 9, at about 2:05 a.m., recovered
one locally fabricated pistol from two adult male suspects, who escaped by a whisker.

He said: “The police visibility patrol team from Agbarho division were on stop and search duty alongside local vigilante officers along Five Junction axis, Agbarho.

“They sighted two adult male suspects who, on sighting the patrol team, threw their bag away, and took to their heels into a nearby bush. A further search was done on the bag, and one locally fabricated pistol was recovered. Exhibit is in custody, and effort is on to arrest the fleeing suspects.”

In a related development, Edafe said the police rescued an abducted person at Ugolo community in Okpe Local council, on November 10, at about 7:00a.m.

He said the victim was rescued after the Commissioner of Police, Wale Abass, gave a marching order to the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Orerokpe, Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Paul Oboware to activate all mechanism and ensure that the kidnapped victim was rescued unhurt.

“The DPO embarked on a technically intelligence-led investigation, mobilised men, and stormed their hideout at Ugolo Community but when the kidnappers noticed that the police were closing in on them, they relocated the victim to Erueni Community while negotiating for ransom.

“ The team, however, trailed these miscreants to their new hideout, where they were eventually forced to abandon the kidnapped victim in an uncompleted building and escape.

The victim was rescued unhurt and has since been reunited with his family, while the police are trailing the fleeing suspects for arrest and prosecution,” he added.
