The Nigeria Police Force has confirmed the arrest of two suspected gunrunners in Katsina State, leading to the recovery of a General Purpose Machine Gun (GPMG) and over 1,295 rounds of live ammunition.
According to a statement issued by Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the suspects Abdussalam Muhammed, 25, and Aminu Mamman, 23, both residents of Baure village in Safana Local Government Area of Katsina State, were intercepted by operatives of the Katsina State Command.
The suspects were arrested around 4:35 a.m. on September 1, 2025, along the Ingawa–Karkarku village road while driving a blue Volkswagen Golf car with registration number RSH-528 BV.
A search of the vehicle uncovered one GPMG, 1,063 rounds of 7.62x39mm AK-47 ammunition, and 232 rounds of 7.62x69mm PKT ammunition.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the weapons were being transported from Hadejia, Jigawa State, to Safana LGA in Katsina for distribution to criminal groups.
The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, commended the officers for their swift action and reaffirmed the Force’s commitment to dismantling organized criminal networks nationwide.
He also urged the public to continue providing credible information to assist security agencies in protecting lives and property.
