– PDP campaigner, Deji Adeyanju, was reportedly re-arrested by the police few hours after he was released on Monday, December 3

– Adeyanju was re-arrested over an alleged petition from the Army chief, Tukur Buratai, accusing him of aiding terrorism on social media

Political activist and Peoples Democratic Party campaigner, Deji Adeyanju, has been reportedly re-arrested by officials of the Nigeria Police Force barely hours after he was released on bail on Monday night, December 3.

Adeyanju, according to his long-term associate, Ariyo-Dare Atoye, was re-arrested over an alleged petition from the Army chief of staff, Tukur Buratai, accusing him of promoting terrorism on social media, Premium Times reports.

Atoye said: “We are now aware that they are plotting to charge him on allegations of aiding terrorism on social media.

“We are expecting him to either be arraigned tomorrow, be released on administrative bail or be kept in perpetual custody under the pretext of continuous investigation. This does not bode well for our democracy.”

Adeyanju was arrested on November 28, while leading a protest against what he termed as partisan conducts of top security chiefs ahead of Nigeria’s general election in 2019.

The Nigerian Army is yet to corroborate Atoye’s claim that Adeyanju was re-arrested over a petition from the Army chief.

However, the police commissioner Bala Ciroma said he could not immediately comment on Mr Adeyanju’s matter, but added that a police spokesperson would be detailed to issue a statement on it later.

Meanwhile, TRACKNEWS.NG earlier reported that former deputy national publicity secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Comrade Timi Frank, condemned the arrest and detention of a human rights activist, Prince Deji Adeyanju.

According to Comrade Frank, Adeyanju’s arrest is an attempt to silence the remaining few activists speaking against the current administration.
