Police rescue three children, arrest two suspected traffickers in Delta

Operatives of the Eagle Net Special Squad have rescued three children who were allegedly kidnapped and trafficked to Delta State.

The rescued victims include Jamila Shagari, a 16-year-old female; Nuhu Yohanna, 12-year-old male; and Abednego Joshua, an 11-year-old male.

It was learnt that one of the victims, Shagari was seen roaming around a church premise in Asaba, the state capital, by a good Samaritan who suspected that all is not well with her.

The Delta State Police Command, led by CP Ari Muhammed Ali, confirmed the report in a statement signed by the acting Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Bright Edafe.

“Preliminary investigation later revealed that she was kidnapped along with three other kids by unknown men with a car while they were playing in their village surroundings in Niger State,” Edafe said.

“The victim Jamila Shagari ‘f’ age 16yrs, also narrated that she was twelve years old when she was kidnapped and brought to one Mrs. Gloria Ugbebor ‘f’ age 39 yrs resident of No. 15 Kingdom Hall Umunede community and her name was changed to Dorcas Peter by the said suspect and taken to Lagos where she was handed over to one Azubuike, she served him as a house help for two years, after much suffering in Mr. Azubuike’s house, she then returned to Mrs. Gloria Ugbebor in Umunede who later handed her over to one Mrs. Vera Olunwa ‘f’ age 62yrs resident of opposite Koka junction Asaba-Ibusa expressway Asaba.”

DSP Edafe noted that two suspects, Mrs. Gloria Ugbebor, 39, and Mrs. Vera Olunwa, 62, have been arrested.

He added that efforts were on to locate the biological parents of the victims just as investigation is ongoing with a view to arresting their other accomplices.
