Police Speak On Investigating CCT Chairman Over Alleged Assault

The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has reacted to the alleged assault leveled by a security guard against the chairman of the Code of Conduct Tribunal, Danladi Umar.

Recall that Umar was caught on camera physically attacking the security guard at Banex Shopping Plaza, Wuse 2, Abuja on Monday.

But in a statement on Saturday by the FCT police command spokesman, ASP Yusuf Mariam, said the command has begun carrying out discreet investigations.

He, however, assured the public that the police will be fair and professional in its investigations on the allegation of assault against the CCT chairman.

Mariam also urged residents to remain calm and allow the law take its cause.

The statement said, “Following the incident of alleged assault involving the CCT Chairman and a security guard that occurred at Bannex Plaza on Monday, March 29, 2021, the Command wishes to state categorically that discreet investigation is still ongoing.

“Hence, the Commissioner of Police CP Bala Ciroma wishes to reassure members of the public that the Command will be professional, fair and thorough in its investigation

“Furthermore, the Command urges residents to remain calm and allow the law take its cause.”

Meanwhile, the Department of State Services (DSS) has arrested a trader identified as Peter Onyuike and handed him over to the police for allegedly assaulting the CCT Chairman.

A document spotted by The Punch revealed that the police are investigating traders for criminal conspiracy, joint act, assault, criminal force, and mischief.

In a letter with reference number CR:3000/FCT/X/D15/Vol which was addressed to the company in charge of security at the plaza, the police asked that another trader, Oyuho Augustine Samuel, be brought to the Anti-Vice Section of the Criminal Investigation Department at Wuse Zone 2 on April 6, 2021.

The letter which was signed by ACP Magawata Mode, and addressed to Jul Reliable Security Guards, is titled, ‘Letter of Invitation, case of criminal conspiracy, joint act, assault, criminal force and mischief: Oyuho Augustine Samuel’.
