2019: Court orders C’Rivers APC NWC to recognise Etim’s list
An Abuja High Court yesterday ordered the National Working Committee (NWC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to recognise the list of candidates submitted by the Etim John-led state executive for the 2019 general elections in Cross River State. The order of the court was sequel to a suit filed by three chieftains of the party in state, Sylvester Okpo, (APC Cross River South Senatorial, Vice Chairman), Eugenia Takon (APC Cross River State ex-officio) and Charles Asim (APC Cross Rivers State youth leader). The claimants, who sued for themselves and on behalf of the state executive and delegates at the state APC ward, local government and state congresses held on May 5, 12 and 19 respectively joined APC as the only defendant.
The claimants in their suit FCT/HC/BW/ CR/106/18 were asking the court, among other prayers, to declare that the APC cannot lawfully nullify the results of the Cross River State executive duly elected during the state congress organised on May 19 by the state congress committee appointed by the defendant and led by Hon. Adamu Hussyne as Chairman, and in compliance with the Constitution of the party, under Article 20 of the Constitution of the APC, 2014 (as amended), considering that there is no lawful complaint pending against the election as the Appeal Committee of the APC having found no irregularity in the congress election.
