2023: I Will Not Loose Sleep Over Your Endorsement, You Did The Same Thing To Abiola—Tinubu mocks Obasanjo

Bola Tinubu, the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate, has criticized former president Olusegun Obasanjo for endorsing Peter Obi, his rival in the Labour Party (LP).

According to our reporter, Obasanjo criticized the candidacies of Tinubu and the PDP’s presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar in a message to young Nigerians on the eve of the new year.

“Let me say right away that “Emi Lokan” (My turn) and “I have paid my dues” are the same thing and are the incorrect mindset and mentality for the leadership of Nigeria right now,” remarked Obasanjo. They are unable to establish a new pillar on which to rebuild and invest in a new Nigeria built around an All-Nigeria Government for the country’s emancipation and restoration. All facets of our national life must be represented in such a government, including the public, private, civil society, professional, labor, employers, and diaspora. Instead of “me” and “I,” the solution should be “we” and “us.”

In response to Obi’s endorsement, the APC presidential candidate claimed that Obasanjo’s support is useless and that his political goodwill has no impact in any region of the country in a statement released by the Director, Media and Publicity of the APC Presidential Campaign Council, Bayo Onanuga.

According to Onanuga, Obasanjo has a history of unsuccessful endorsements, and Obi’s circumstance would be no different.

He argued that even in his own state of Ogun, Obasanjo had failed to successfully influence the victory of a candidate since the elections of 2003 and 2007.

We were amused to learn that Mr. Peter Obi, the presidential candidate for the Labour Party, had received the former president Olusegun Obasanjo’s support in his New Year’s address on Sunday, according to the statement. “We respect the democratic right of former President Obasanjo to support and endorse any candidate of his choice in any election,” the statement reads. After receiving calls from journalists from various media outlets asking for our reaction, we decided to issue this statement.

Onanuga continued by saying that since Obasanjo had consistently made it clear that he preferred Peter Obi, the support was not unexpected.

He reasoned that given that Obasanjo also declined to back the unsuccessful MKO Abiola campaign, the Tinubu campaign would not be alarmed by his choice.

Since Obasanjo is known for consistently opposing progressive political forces, as he did against MKO Abiola in 1993, we make the bold claim that our party and candidate, Aswaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, won’t lose sleep over the move.

“The endorsement is essentially useless because the previous President has no influence or political goodwill in Nigeria to influence anyone to win a council election, let alone a presidential race. Politically speaking, he is worthless. Furthermore, he is not a democrat that anyone ought to be happy to support.

In February, history will be repeated, as our candidate Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu will defeat Obi handily.

We pay close attention to Chief Obasanjo’s claim that none of the presidential candidates are saints in the endorsement declaration.

“We want to make it clear that Chief Obasanjo is a poor moral judge. The statement further said that he views himself as Nigeria’s only all-knowing Saint.
