2023: I’m Not Aspiring Because I’m Igbo, But Competent Nigerian – Ohuabunwa
LAGOS – Mazi Same Ohuabunwa, a presidential hopeful for 2023 under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and former chairman of the Nigeria Economic Summit Group (NESG) has said that he is not in the presidential race because he is an Igbo man but because he has the competence to lead the country.
Ohuabunwa in an interview on Tuesday on Arise Television said that he is not aspiring because he is an Igbo man, but that he has presented himself because he feels that he is a competent Nigerian who has lived in the country, has been trained and had the privileges of enjoying a good nation.
“We need to change the story; we need to change the narrative. The country that we are leaving behind for our children is not the same country that our parents left for us. Of course in Nigeria everybody speaks about equity, justice and fair play. In the party that I am, the PDP, that is part of what they have agreed to do.
“In Nigeria we speak about power sharing, we speak about rotation, we speak about federal character, and we speak about how to build ownership. In a country where we have diverse people, diverse culture, diverse ethnic, diverse religion, it makes sense to often plan how you can make sure that the country has an opportunity to carry everyone along,” he said.
The former President of Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria (NPS), said, “Today, a large pool of opinion believes that the South-East ought to be given an opportunity to present the next president but I am not here because of that, if it happens that is nice, but if not I am ready to compete with the best in the country,”
