In Lagos State, the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, expressed confidence that it would defeat the All Progressives Congress, APC, in the general elections in 2023, adding that it is ready to free the state from the shackles of sole proprietorship.

The remarks were made by the party’s leaders during a UMBRELLA DAY walk from the Fadeyi bus stop to the Maryland area of the state in preparation for the 2023 elections.

The party’s leaders have stated that they are ready to hand over Lagos State to Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, the party’s presidential candidate.

Dr. Abdul-Azeez Adediran, popularly known as Jandor, and his running mate, Funke Akindele, a BoT member of the party, Mrs. Aduke Marina, Dr. Bimbo Ogunkelu, former state chairman, Capt Tunji Shelle (retd), Philip Aivoje, Mr. Deji Doherty, and Tolagbe Animashaun, all participated in the rally.

Former party spokesperson Taofik Gani stated, “It is time to cause an upset and defeat Tinubu in Lagos.” Furthermore, he is running for president, so we are overjoyed to have secured him as a direct participant.”

The walk was led by Mr. Adedeji Doherty, Chairman of the Atiku/Okowa Presidential Campaign Council, PCC, and other state party chieftains.

Doherty told the crowd in Maryland that the umbrella walk was meant to show the electorate that the party is fully prepared and united to give Nigerians hope if elected.

“The umbrella is a symbol of unity meant to unite everyone and every ethnic group in support of Atiku/Okowa,” he explained. Its purpose is to show the unity that exists in Lagos State and throughout Nigeria.

“It is also to inform the ruling party today that the PDP intends to bring the country together as soon as we take office in 2023.”

“If Atiku Abubakar is elected, he has promised to form a national unity government.” Mr. Peter Obi of the Labour Party, Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso of the New Nigerian Peoples Party, Senator Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress, and others must join him.

“He’s going to round up everyone.” His government will include everyone. Once we’re all on the same page, the rest is easy.

“Nigerians have tried both the PDP and the APC, and they can see the difference; give the PDP another chance; we will correct our mistakes,” he said.

Capt.Tunji Shelle, Deputy Director, PCC Elections Management, also spoke, describing Abubakar as mentally stable, intelligent, articulate, and selfless, and expressing confidence that he will win the 2023 presidential election.

“Nigeria is on the road to prosperity under our party,” said Mr. Tolagbe Animashaun, Lagos State Director of the Atiku/Okowa PCC.

“We will canvass local governments and reach out to the grassroots to promote our candidates, and everything will fall into place once this one is over.”

In his remarks, Mr. Hakeem Amode, the PDP’s Lagos State Publicity Secretary, stated, “The PDP is coming to make Nigeria and Lagos State better.” It won’t be business as usual with everything we’ve outlined for the people.”
