The chairman of the Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Walid Jibrin, has said he resigned from his position to ensure that nothing hinders Atiku Abubakar, presidential candidate of the party, from winning the 2023 election.

Track News reports that Jibrin disclosed this at the National Executive Council (NEC) meeting currently going on in Abuja, the Nigerian capital city.

“We must make sure that all of us are one to make sure Atiku becomes the president of Nigeria by all means. All of us! And that is why yesterday (Wednesday), I decided that me, Senator Walid Jibrin, I’m stepping down as Chairman BoT.

“I’m stepping down to make it easier for all of us. And I discussed this with the candidate (Atiku). The candidate agreed with me. He even said I’m going to give you a bigger position,” he said.

This newspaper recalls that the PDP has been embroiled in a crisis over the emergence of Atiku Abubakar as the 2023 presidential candidate of the party.

The Governor of Rivers state, Nyesom Wike has been at loggerheads with Atiku over what he described as ‘unfairness to the South and breach of the party’s zoning arrangement’ as the presidential candidate of the party is from Adamawa (north-east), Jibrin hails from Nasarawa (north-central), and Iyorchia Ayu, the national chairman of the party is from Benue (north-central).
