Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike met with his counterparts from Benue, Oyo, and Abia, Samuel Ortom, Seyi Makinde, and Okezie Ikpeazu, in London on Sunday ahead of the 2023 elections.

Senator Olaka Nwogu and Chief Dan Orbih were among those present.

A Nigerian pilot recalled several high-profile politicians paying Wike a visit at his home in Port Harcourt.

Attempts have been made to appease the governor following the ill-treatment meted out by some Peoples Democratic Party members (PDP).

However, following his rejection as the PDP’s vice presidential candidate by the party’s presidential flagbearer, Atiku Abubakar, he has remained silent on his next move.

According to a highly placed PDP source, Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State has been under intense pressure to persuade Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike not to withdraw his support for the party or dump the party since the crisis erupted over the choice of the PDP’s Vice Presidential candidate.

According to the source, the Governor of Benue State was pressured by the party’s hierarchy to call an emergency meeting in London following the Friday visit of Lagos, Ekiti, and Ondo Governors Sanolu, Kayode, and Akeredolu, as well as former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose.

At the time of writing, the governors are meeting behind closed doors in London.
