79 suspected election violators arrested in Sokoto

The Police Command in Sokoto State on Sunday said 79 suspects were arrested by the security agencies during the March 18 Governorship and State House of Assembly elections in the state.
A statement issued to journalists in Sokoto by DSP Sanusi Abubakar, the command’s spokesman, said that those arrested were people that violated the movement restriction order and other offences that contravened the Electoral Act.
The statement read in part, “All the electoral offenses among them were fully investigated and transferred to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for prosecution.
“While others that contravened the penal code have been charged to court by the Police. However, there are others that are still under investigation.”
Meanwhile, Ahmed Aliyu of the All Progressives Congress, APC, was declared the winner of the Sokoto Gubernatorial election.
Aliyu defeated the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, after obtaining 453, 661 votes
