Babachir Lawal, the former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), has denied being a member of the committee that recommended running mate nominees to Bola Tinubu.
In an interview with the Track News on Wednesday night, Lawal stated that he was not a member of any committee that recommended Tinubu’s running mate nominees.

He confirmed that he chaired the planning and strategy committee, which was formed to put strategies in place for Tinubu to select the APC presidential ticket.

According to the former SGF, he was not aware of any sub-committee that recommended running mates to the former Lagos governor.

“I chaired the Bola Tinubu Planning and Strategy Committee, which was formed to implement Tinubu’s ticket-picking strategies.”

“However, I’m not aware of any subcommittee that suggested running mates.” It is not our responsibility. “You know how politicians can make anything up,” he said.

According to a member of the Tinubu Campaign Organisation’s (TCO) Planning and Strategy Committee, headed by Lawal, the committee recommended eleven names to Tinubu as nominees for the vice presidential candidate.

He stated that the recommendation was included in the report of a subcommittee chaired by Senator Grace Folasade Bent.

According to the member, the committee’s final report was completed last week Tuesday and delivered to Tinubu in London on Wednesday.

He went on to say that after Lawal submitted the report to Tinubu, the APC presidential candidate returned to Nigeria and announced Shettima as his running mate.

Another panel member stated that the committee’s report was routed through Lawal before reaching the former Lagos governor.

“He was involved in the decision, and the report was delivered to the presidential candidate through him.”

“First, we sent Asiwaju a soft copy of our report before BD Lawal delivered the hard copy to him in London last Wednesday,” he explained.
