Controversy Arises as Rivers Governor-Elect Reveals He Doesn’t Address Nyesom Wike As His Excellency
During his inauguration speech, Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State made a noteworthy statement regarding his address to Governor Wike. Governor Fubara expressed that throughout their time working together, he has never referred to Governor Wike as “His Excellency.” Instead, he has consistently used the term “Oga” as a sign of respect. According to Governor Fubara, using the title “His Excellency” would only serve to please Governor Wike, while “Oga” holds a deeper meaning.
Governor Fubara extended his greetings to Governor Wike’s wife and other distinguished individuals present during the ceremony, emphasizing the importance of acknowledging and respecting their contributions to the state.
Quoting the exact statement released by Siminalayi Fubara, he said, “Her Excellency, my wife, Lady Vallerie Fubara; His Excellency, my Oga. Honestly, I’ve never called him ‘His Excellency’; I call him ‘my Oga’ because ‘Oga’ is bigger and deeper. ‘Excellency’ can be just to please you, but ‘Oga’ has a deeper meaning if you’re calling it with a sense of ‘Oga,’ so I maintain ‘my Oga,’ ‘His Excellency.’
