Court nullifies APC Nasarawa West Senatorial primary
By Adeleye Kunle
A Federal High Court seating in Lafia on Wednesday, November 2, 2022, nullified the All Progressives Congress, APC, primary election for Nasarawa West Senatorial zone, which produced Arc. Shehu Tukur as the party’s candidate.
Barr Labaran Magaji had earlier dragged APC and the acclaimed winner, Tukur, to court, alleging that there were discrepancies in the conduct of the election, which favoured Tukur.
Delivering the judgement, the presiding judge, Justice Nehezina Afolabi, announced the nullification of the election and ordered APC to conduct a fresh election within two weeks.
The judge also gave directives to the party to use the authentic delegates list certified by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, while conducting the fresh election.
While reacting to the judgement, Barr Ghali Ahmed, the counsel to the plaintiff, expressed satisfaction with the judgement, noting that the court considered all the issues raised by both the plaintiff and the defendant and came up with a decision which is very fair to both parties
