The crisis within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Adamawa State has taken a fresh turn, with the party leadership disowning the Presidential Campaign Council list in circulation.

Adamawa State APC has been devoid of unity since May when Senator Aishatu Ahmed Binani won the governorship primary and became the party candidate, with one of her opponents, Nuhu Ribadu and his backers challenging her victory, resulting in a federal high court verdict that quashed her candidacy in October.

Binani, however, remains the head of the presidential campaign council of the APC in the state, but she is now up against the party leadership, which questions and rejected the list she drew up.

The Executive Committee of the party in the state which held a meeting in Yola on Wednesday afternoon said the committee and many other vital stakeholders were not consulted when the list was compiled.

At a press briefing following the state executive meeting, the Adamawa State APC chairman, Hon Samaila Tadawus, said the party was surprised when it “stumbled on a list of purported state presidential campaign members in circulation on social media and in some national dailies dated 31st October 2022.”

The list, Tadawus stressed, emanated from Senator Aishatu Dahiru Ahmed (Binani) who as Adamawa State coordinator “singlehandedly generated the list without consulting the party at both state and local government levels.”

Stressing that the national campaign secretariat of the APC does not confer the right on any state coordinator to bypass the party and act unilaterally, Tadawus said the state chapter of the APC rejects the list in circulation and will come up with a fresh one.

He avowed that the state executives, local government party chairmen, candidates and other stakeholders will hold a meeting on Friday, after which “a comprehensive list of the state Presidential Campaign Council members will be released
