Following his defeat at the election petition tribunal, Gedion Gwani, the unsuccessful candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for Kaura Federal Constituency in Kaduna State, has chosen to pursue his case at the Court of Appeal.

The tribunal’s ruling on July 28 confirmed the victory of Donatus Mathew from the Labour Party (LP) in the February 25 election.

Initially, Mr. Gwani had presented his case to the tribunal, seeking to invalidate the election results based on his assertion that the LP did not endorse Mr. Mathew as their candidate. Additionally, he alleged various irregularities such as overvoting and non-compliance with the Electoral Act during the election.

However, the tribunal dismissed Gwani’s petition due to lack of merit.

In his appeal to the Court of Appeal, Mr. Gwani has named Mr. Mathew, the Labour Party, and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as the primary respondents.

He has requested the court to overturn the decision made by the election petition tribunal and to grant the reliefs sought in his original petition.
