How Will Someone in APGA Issue Such Order – Peter Obi Explains Arresting El-Rufai
Ibekimi Oriamaja Reports
Peter Obi, the Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate, has denied issuing the order to detain Nasir el-Rufai during the Anambra governorship election in 2013.
According to Track News, Governor El-Rufai claimed during an interactive session organized by the Arewa Joint Committee that he was arrested and detained for 48 hours in Anambra State in 2013 on the orders of Obi, the state’s then-Governor.
According to the governor, he was arrested while visiting Anambra on behalf of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to monitor the state’s governorship bye-election.
Responding to the Kaduna governor’s claim, Peter Obi denied being behind El-arrest Rufai’s and detention at the event.
According to the presidential candidate, he was a governor on the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) platform, and the Peoples Democratic Party controlled the federal government (PDP).
“When I came in now, someone told me that my brother, the governor of Kaduna state, said he came to my state and I detained him,” he explained. Let me tell you, when these things occur, it is beneficial to clarify them.
“Number one, in my eight years as governor, I only had one commissioner who was not from the north — the commissioner of police.” That’s because I met the individual.
“This was said by the governor during the election. The police commissioner who was present at the time was from Adamawa, CP Gwari. The AIG in charge of the election was CP Nasarawa from the north. The DIG who arrived for the election was from Kano.
“Tell me about my power in APGA — government was PDP and APC.” Tell me how an APGA official will issue a detention order. My local government even detained me.
“However, the only offense I committed was that when they asked, I said ‘that’s how they treat everyone; that I wouldn’t be in Kaduna on election day.’” That was all there was.
“There isn’t any way. That is something I cannot do. I had the best ADC in Nigeria — the best policeman — as governor of Anambra state. Mohammed, my ADC, is from Kano. He’s the most professional cop I’ve ever met. To whom will I issue the order? How am I going to tell who lives in my house every day; I’m close to his family; I get up and say, ‘Mohammed, I want to deal with your people,’ and he stays.
“Please contact my ADC right away.” I will provide you with his phone number. He’s the best cop there is. He’s now a CSP. As a result, when people say Peter Obi is black. I was a good man when I was [vice-presidential candidate] in 2019. I’ve turned into a bad man because I want to be president. Nothing went wrong with me. “I want to transform Nigeria.”
