Atiku Abubakar, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate, has expressed disappointment in Nigeria’s inability to defeat Boko Haram.
According to Track News, the former Vice President expressed his feelings while speaking on Sunday at Channels Television’s ‘The People’s Townhall.’

Atiku questioned why Nigeria is still struggling to deal with the Boko Haram issue, particularly with the deployment of military forces.

The PDP flagbearer went on to say that he couldn’t find a place in Borno where people could hide and not be seen.

“I served in Borno state, and as a customs officer, I patrolled the entire north-east,” he explained. As a result, I am very familiar with the vegetation and the border areas. I’m still unable to find a place in Borno where anyone can hide and not be seen.

“I truly do not comprehend the Boko Haram phenomenon.” Where can I go to hide? To the point where they mentioned a place called Sambisa. I was there, but I didn’t see a forest. There are only a few shrubs here and there.

“We have deployed the Nigerian military, which used to be one of the best in the world, in a number of international arenas, and they have excelled. And here we are deploying the Nigerian Army with all its might, and we just couldn’t eliminate Boko Haram.

“I’m perplexed. Maybe I’ll understand when I get there.”

When asked how he would improve security, Atiku referred to the security architecture of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), emphasizing the importance of reforming the country’s security architecture.

“I’ve been to several parts of the world,” he added. The UAE security architecture is one of the security architectures that I admire. It is primarily based on observation.

“You don’t see police officers or soldiers in uniform in the UAE.” However, everyone is eventually monitored on a daily basis, especially visitors.

“You are being watched from the moment you enter the country until you leave. That is the deployment of technology in terms of security.

“We must examine the current security structure.” How can we reform it to provide people with the safest environment possible, no matter where they are?”
