Chieftains and members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) flocked to Owerri, the state capital, on Thursday to greet the party’s presidential candidate, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Tinubu is in Owerri to address a group of private sector drivers, including investors, manufacturers, and traders, among others, ahead of his main campaign in the state in the coming days.

Despite the fact that the town hall meeting was limited to drivers from the aforementioned sectors in the Southeast, party members in the state turned out in their thousands to catch a glimpse of their presidential candidate.

Though Tinubu had not yet arrived in Owerri at the time of filing this report, the presence of supporters caused heavy traffic gridlock along the Protea Road, according to our correspondent.

Despite the explanation from the APC leadership in the State that they would see Tinubu when he returned for campaigning next week, the excited party members remained adamant, forcing the party leaders and the State Government to make emergency arrangements to keep them under canopies.

According to The Nation, cheerful party leaders and members gathered as early as 8 a.m. sang and danced along Protea Road and in front of the Landmark Events Centre, where the town hall meeting was scheduled to take place.

Cajethan Duke, publicity secretary for the Imo APC, described the large crowd as a show of enthusiasm by party members, who came out to show solidarity.

“As you are aware, Asiwaju’s visit is not for a rally. It is intended for Southeast industry captains, manufacturers, and traders, as well as party candidates for various positions at the event.

“The party members you see here are only demonstrating solidarity in the project, and I can assure you that they don’t mind the scorching sun as long as it has something to do with Tinubu and the APC,” he said.
