Senator representing Kaduna North Senatorial District in the National Assembly, Suleiman Hunkuyi, has officially dumped the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The lawmaker made his decision known in a letter he addressed to his ward chairman in Kudan Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

TrackNews understands, however, that Hunkuyi in the letter dated 25th February 2022, did not explain why he dumped the party nor state his next line of action.

Hunkuyi’s withdrawal letter has also been confirmed by the State PDP Secretary, Ibrahim Wosono.

Reacting to the development, Wosono said: “We confirmed from his ward that they have received his letter.

“So, we wish him well, because it is not the first time he is leaving our party. His exit this time will not affect the party in any way.”

TrackNews recalls that Senator Hunkuyi was in the last Senate on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), but shortly before the 2019 general elections, he dumped the party for the PDP.

As mentioned by the party secretary, it’s not the first time Hunkuri is leaving the opposition party.

On May 16, 2020, the Kaduna State PDP Information Secretary (former), Ibrahim Alberoh Catoh, announced the suspension of Senator Hunkuyi.

According to the statement, the PDP complied with section 57 (3) of its 2017 constitution in passing this judgment on Suleiman Hunkuyi,

Subsequently, the party announced the lifting of its suspension on Hunkuyi, and six other senior members of the party, TrackNews recalls.

The announcement of the suspension issued by the caretaker chairman of the PDP in Kaduna State, Felix Hayat read: “The suspension imposed on Sen. Hunkuyi, DDrMatoh Dogara and Hon. Ibrahim Lazuru is hereby lifted.

“Alh. Imam Lawal and Col. Dauda Albehu Torah (rtd.) are advised to go and regularise their membership of the party in their respective wards.

“With John Danfulani and Ubale Salmanduna able to return to their constituencies to re-register as new party members, their expulsions from the PDP have been withdrawn.

“The party calls on those concerned to embrace this goodwill offered and join hands for the unity, progress and growth of the party in our state and the country in general,” Hyatt said.
