Labour rejects tribunal judgment, says Tinubu’s victory was electoral robbery
The Labour Party (LP) has rejected the judgment of the Presidential Election Petitions Tribunal on its petition challenging the victory of President Bola Tinubu of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in the February 25, 2023, poll.
Party spokesman Obiora Ifoh stated that justice was not served in the Labour’s petition against the APC and Mr Tinubu.
Mr Ifoh also stated that the party will make public its next move after consultations with its lawyers.
“ Nigerians were witnesses to the electoral robbery that took place on February 25, 2023, which was globally condemned, but the Tribunal in its wisdom refused to accept the obvious,” he said. “What is at stake is democracy, and we will not relent until the people will prevail.
The party said that the judgment given by the tribunal did not reflect the law and the desire of the people, but nonetheless pressed its supporters and team of lawyers, noting that its next decision would be announced soon. The party is expected to appeal the ruling to the Supreme Court.
“We salute the doggedness of our team of lawyers who fearlessly exposed the wrath in our system. We can only weep for democracy in Nigeria, but we refuse to give up on Nigeria,” it said. “Details of the party’s position will be presented after consultation with our lawyers after the certified true copy of the judgment is made available to us.”
The party urged all lovers of democracy to remain calm, resolute and focused, adding that a new Nigeria is possible.
Peter Obi and the Labour Party, who came third in the election, filed a joint petition in March challenging the victory of Bola Tinubu and the ruling APC.
