Akin Agbaje, an ally of Edo State Governor Godwin Obaski, has defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and rejoined the All Progressives Congress (APC) (APC).
Adams Oshiomhole, former APC National Chairman, received the former Commissioner for Energy and Electricity and his supporters on Sunday in Igarra, Akoko-Edo Local Government Area.

At the event, Agbaje stated that he returned to the APC with many of his supporters in order to ensure that the party reclaims Edo state in the 2023 governorship election.

During the 2020 governorship election, the former Director of Obaseki Campaign Organization described his return to the APC as “coming home to roost.”

He vowed to work with other party leaders to ensure that the APC wins in Akoko Edo in the general election next year.

In his remarks, Oshiomhole praised Agbaje for returning to the party in order to rebuild the state and the nation into places worthy of all citizens.

The former governor warned politicians against what he called the institutionalization of poverty among citizens.

“We have reached a point where all Nigerian leaders in politics and business must recognize that we must build and rebuild a country worthy of all,” he said.

“At this age, I have a duty to my country to identify with others to rebuild the ladder that allowed me to go to school without fees as the son of a farmer in a village that was not on the map and grow to become the governor of this state.”

He claimed that the Obaseki administration received N16 billion from the federal government as a refund for federal roads built by his administration, and that such money should be used to build more roads for the people.
