Ogun ADC Promises to Appeal Judgement Disqualifying Guber Candidate, Others

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has announced its intention to appeal the Federal High Court’s decision to dismiss its governorship candidate, Barr Biyi Otegbeye, and 26 other party candidates.
The reaction follows the nullification of the party’s governorship candidate in Ogun state by a Federal High Court in Abeokuta, the state capital, according to Track News.

It should be noted that in his decision, Justice Akintayo Aluko stated that the primaries that produced Otegbeye and others were not monitored by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), which was a violation of the Electoral Act.

As a result, the court ordered INEC to remove the names of Otegbeye and the 26 assembly candidates from its list of candidates for 2023.

The Ogun State Labour Party had taken the ADC candidates to court over alleged violations of the Electoral Act during their party’s primaries.

In response to the ruling, the Ogun ADC’s Legal Adviser, Ifenla Oligbinde, stated that the party’s legal team had been instructed to appeal the rulings.

In a statement, Oligbinde maintained that the processes that produced Otegbeye and the other candidates were in accordance with the Electoral Act and the 1999 constitution.

“We have no doubt whatsoever that the validity of all our candidates will be sustained on appeal,” he said, urging ADC supporters to remain calm.
