Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike has signed into law a new executive order (order 22) that governs the type of building political parties can use as campaign headquarters in the run-up to the 2023 elections.
According to a statement issued on Tuesday by Rivers State Commissioner for Information and Communication, Alagbo Chris Finebone, the new order will go into effect on Friday.

He also stated that the Rivers State Commissioner for Urban and Physical Planning must grant permission and approval before any residential building can be used as a campaign office.

Executive Order 22 also prohibited the indiscriminate posting of campaign flyers, bills, and posters in unauthorized locations, according to Track News.

The constant posting of banners, bills, and other campaign materials, according to the statement, has defaced many public properties throughout the state.

Executive Order 22 mandates that “any political party, association, or body of persons, however called or described, that wishes to use any premises, building, or structure located in a residential area in any urban area of Rivers State as a campaign office obtain permission from the Rivers State Commissioner for Urban and Physical Planning.”

Finebone went on to say that Executive Order RVSG – 22 is a legal document that requires political parties to meet certain requirements before embarking on state-wide campaigns.
