Saraki is hero of Nigeria’s democracy – Uche Secondus hails Senate President’s exit from APC
– PDP’s national chairman has described Bukola Saraki as the hero of Nigeria’s democracy
– Uche Secondus called on other democratic lawmakers in the National Assembly to emulate the Senate President’s exit from APC
– According to Secondus, APC have never encouraged democrats like Saraki and Governor Ahmed since its assumption as ruling party in the country
The national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Uche Secondus, has commended the Senate President Bukola Saraki and the governor of Kwara state, Abudulfatah Ahmed for their recent decision to join the opposition party.
Secondus said described the Senate President as the hero of Nigeria’s democracy.
He said that democracy is the huge beneficiary from the actions taken by the Senate President and Kwara state governor due to the on going political realignment which would help to deepen democracy in the country.
In a statement by his media aide, Ike Abonyi, the PDP national chairman said that the duo, from the beginning, were not supposed to be in ruling All Progressives Congress but have been there due to circumstances and events.
He also said the APC since 2015 have never encouraged democrats like Saraki and Ahmed to continue retaining their membership of such undemocratic body.
He said Saráki has become the hero of Nigeria’s current democracy, having gone through all the humiliations in defence of legislative independence, freedom and rule of law.
Secondus said: “They have done everything to humiliate and cow him into submission but he did not yield as he defended democracy all through.”
“Dr Saraki and his colleagues in the parliament tried their best to curtail the dictatorial tendencies of the executive and it was for that they are being hounded,” Secondus said.
He further urged other democrats still staying in APC, to note that democracy would be better served by their exit as Nigerians are very well determined to not only save our democracy but indeed the country.
The PDP chieftain assured all lovers of civil liberty and rule of law in the country, that the rebranded and re-positioned main opposition – PDP – is now well disposed to provide direction for the sustenance of the nation’s democracy.
Meanwhile,TRACKNEWS.NG previously reported that APC members in House of Representatives have advised their Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) colleagues to push for reconvening from recess.
The APC lawmakers also cautioned their colleagues against blaming President Muhammadu Buhari on issues in the National Assembly.
The leader of the House, Femi Gbajabiamila also noted that the purported impeachment of the Speaker of Benue House of Assembly by eight members could not pass the test under the Constitution.
