Former Kano State Governor, Malam Ibrahim Shekarau, said yesterday that the presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso, and his group betrayed the trust placed in them when he joined the NNPP a few months ago.

Shekarau spoke at Kano Foundation Hall during a meeting with the Shura Advisory Council, which is made up of representatives from the state’s 44 local government areas.

“All the agreements we had with him were betrayed by Kwankwaso and his boys, and they did not accommodate a single person from my camp,” he explained.

“We agreed to accommodate my supporters in various elective positions in the party, but until now, the committee set up could not accommodate a single person, aside from the senatorial slot assigned to me.”

“I will never take part in injustice.” My integrity is paramount, and no political position will force me to compromise it or that of my people. Nobody will use their position or money to undermine my integrity.

“I am a man of honor and integrity, but his governorship candidate (Abba Kabir Yusuf), who was tasked with looking into areas to accommodate my people into various elective positions, never did so or even called for a meeting, let alone accepting my supporters to contest.”

“No one will use money to change my mind.” For eight years as governor of Kano, people trusted my integrity. I am still living in a rented house in Abuja and never assigned a single plot of land to myself when I was governor of Kano, and I challenged anyone who knows where my plot of land is to expose it.”

Shekarau, on the other hand, did not say whether or not he was leaving NNPP. He did, however, promise that the next course of action would be communicated within a few weeks.

He urged his supporters to be patient and await his final decision on whether to stay in the NNPP or leave for another party.
