The Labour Party has claimed that it will capitalize on Nigerians’ strong support to win the general election in 2023.

The statement was made in a statement issued by the party’s leadership following a two-day national leadership retreat in Abuja under the heading “Nigeria at a Crossroads: Labour Party as the Only Credible Option for National Salvation.”

The party revealed that at the retreat, important national issues were covered and resolutions were duly adopted. It also stated that it was determined to work with supporters to seize political power in Nigeria.

To give its supporters more assurance, the party revealed that it had formed a committee to draft the party’s policy document, which would be made public in two weeks. It also revealed that the committee had been asked to form a presidential campaign planning and strategy committee for the general election of the following year.

“That Labour Party leaders and stakeholders shall be actively involved in the process of rescuing Nigeria from the ruling cartel in the APC and PDP, who are holding the country hostage, by pushing a new message of hope and national prosperity that will permanently change how politics is played in Nigeria,” the communiqué stated.

In contrast to the current system of nepotism and irresponsibility, “that Labour Party shall enthrone a government that is egalitarian and inclusive, making Chapter 2 of the Nigerian Constitution justifiable.

“That Labour Party shall make the Nigerian Workers’ Charter of Demands the central plank of the Labour Party Campaign for the 2023 elections, which the Labour Party government will implement on a short-, medium-, and long-term basis in order to reshape Nigeria and set it on the course for positive development.

“That Labour Party Government shall invest in the development of human capital, particularly the teeming youth population of the country through effective and functional quality education by assuring the restoration of Nigeria’s decrepit education system.

In light of the unrest and pronounced divisions in Nigeria, “That Labour Party Government shall put measures in place toward the fulfillment of the directive principle of the Nigerian State in furthering the economic prosperity of Nigerians toward political cohesion and national security.

“That the Labour Party will address the significant issues that Nigeria is facing and make sure that it puts forth solutions that will advance national integration, the advancement of citizens’ rights, the eradication of all forms of discrimination, such as race and ethnicity, and prevent identity politics.

The development of industrialization, human capital, and power generation through economic diversification will all be priorities for the Labour Party.

Other resolutions state that the Labour Party “must commit to comprehensive state and other security architectural reforms, military reform, and state reforms that will ensure effective internal security and stability of Nigeria.”

“That the Labour Party will organize all Nigerians to fight ethnic and religious politics and usher in a new Nigeria free from primal feelings, manipulation, and exploitation of the current rulers of the country.
