The north will occupy the country if Tinubu is not sworn-in as president on May 29–Babatunde Fashola
The long-awaited 2nd Niger Bridge was recently unveiled by the South East Governors, who decided to honorably name it after President Muhammadu Buhari, despite his imminent departure from office. This decision was made in recognition of the President’s perceived contributions. However, Babatunde Fashola, the Minister of Works and Housing and former Governor of Lagos State, has expressed skepticism regarding the South East region’s appreciation of President Buhari and his administration’s impact on their area.
Fashola firmly believes that the South East cannot overlook the positive changes brought about by President Buhari and his government in their region. He emphasized the commendable progress made in terms of infrastructure, citing feedback received from various sources. Furthermore, Fashola highlighted a survey that revealed a significant reduction in travel time, indicating an improvement in transportation efficiency.
Referring to Fashola’s statement, he mentioned that without the swearing-in of Tinubu as president on May 29, the North would dominate the country. Fashola acknowledged the challenging nature of his ministry and the difficulty of self-assessment. However, he expressed confidence in the positive feedback received from the people they serve, which suggests a transition towards better conditions compared to the starting point.
One notable example he cited was the undeniable impact of President Buhari’s “change” mantra in the South East region, where travel time on roads has been significantly reduced. According to the survey, the average reduction in travel time amounts to 55%.
