Ugwuanyi Honored for Selecting Mbah as the PDP Candidate for Governor of Enugu

The residents of Enugu State’s Enugu East Senatorial District yesterday praised Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi for giving in to their desire that the PDP’s governorship ticket be zoned to them in accordance with the state’s rotational zoning system.

The praise was expressed by the populace during a thank-you visit led by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for governor, Barr. The people of Enugu East Senatorial District also expressed their gratitude to Governor Ugwuanyi for selecting Mbah as the PDP candidate for governor in the general election of 2023, highlighting the fact that the governor keeps his word.

The PDP Zonal Chairman, Hon. Nwafor, who delivered their message of appreciation, said that their visit was made solely to express gratitude to Ugwuanyi for helping Mbah, an individual from Owo, Nkanu East Local Government Area in Enugu East Senatorial District of Enugu State, become the PDP’s governorship candidate.

Nwafor recalled that on June 17, 2021, during the Oganiru Enugu East Senatorial District Rally, the people of Enugu East Senatorial District, along with the clergy and traditional rulers, gathered in Michael Okpara Square, Enugu, and pleaded with Ugwuanyi to ensure that the rotational zoning arrangement of the governorship position, which favored their zone, was upheld.

He emphasized that Ugwuanyi had assured them that justice, equity, and fairness would triumph in due course, adding that the governor’s assurance was fulfilled on May 25, 2022, when Mbah was legitimately chosen as the PDP’s candidate for governor.

The Ugwuanyi was congratulated for responding to the people of the Enugu East Senatorial District by the immediate past chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Ben Nwoye, who also expressed gratitude to him during the visit.

Nwoye recalled that he had also urged the governor to make sure that the Enugu East Senatorial District produced the next governor of Enugu State in 2023.

The former APC chairman emphasized that “Enugu East Senatorial District will produce the next governor of Enugu State” and expressed his happiness that all of the major political parties in Enugu State have zoned their governorship ticket to Enugu East Senatorial District in advance of the 2023 general election.

“Your Excellency, while there are those who hold opposing views, the APGA, APC, Labour Party, and of course the PDP have all given the Enugu East Senatorial District their tickets due to your leadership abilities, your calm demeanor, and your generosity.

“Therefore, the future governor of Enugu State will come from the Enugu East Senatorial District. I’m grateful, sir. I am aware that you made a sacrifice.

Some people he encountered believed you need to have handled the situation better, and as a result, they are hunting, but their efforts will be in vain, he stated.

Other speakers, including the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Ubosi, the State Chairman of the PDP, Hon. Nnamani, Senator Gil Emeka Nnaji, the member representing Enugu North/South Federal Constituency, Rt. Hon. Ofor Chukwuegbo, the recently appointed Commissioner, Dr. Jideofor Ebeh, the newly sworn in Commissioner, Hon. Deacon Okey Ogbodo, Hon.

In response, Ugwuanyi said: “All I have done is to provide the leadership needed at this point in our history to protect that cherished political culture and which, in reality, gave birth to my own political opportunity as well as that of my predecessors in office.” Ugwuanyi expressed great delight at the kind words, solidarity, and gratitude from the delighted people of Enugu East Senatorial District.

The governor urged the zone’s residents to pray and unite behind Mbah in order to advance ongoing consultations leading up to the start of official electioneering campaigns as required by the Independent National Electoral Commission. The governor also expressed implicit confidence in Mbah (INEC).

Dr. Chimaroke Nnamani, the senator who represents Enugu East Senatorial District, Sen. Ken Nnamani, and Dr. Jim Nwobodo, a former senator from the district, wrote letters of apology for missing the ceremony.
