The Executive Assistant to Bayelsa State Governor Douye Diri on Public Affairs And Social Orientation and former two times Special Assistant to Managing Directors of the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, Evang. Barr. George Turnah, MON says his seven years ordeal in the hands of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has made him stronger and better positioned for the task ahead in service to humanity.

George Turnah who stated this during a thanksgiving Service at the Christian Church of God Mission, CCGM in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, to appreciate God following his victory at the federal high court Port Harcourt, where the court struck out all the 23 count charge brought against him by the EFCC says he has also forgiven all who wronged him.

On September 7th 2023, Hon. Justice A.T Mohammed of the Federal High Court, Port Harcourt struck out a 23 count charge instituted against George Turnah, by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, and ordered the immediate release of all his finances and assets as well as account for all monies recovered during the course of their investigation, thereby ending 7 years of legal battle, which started on May 23, 2017.

In giving thanks to God for the victory, George Turnah and his family were joined by friends, associates and well wishers including the Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, who was represented by the acting chief of staff, Peter Akpe, at the Christian Church of God Mission, Yenagoa.

For Turnah, his seven years travail in the hands of the EFCC was training in disguise which has prepared him better for greater responsibilities. He also called on the anti-graft agency to be diligent in carrying out its duties but not become a stooge to do the biddings of desperate politicians, adding that all indicators pointed to the fact that his prosecution was a political move orchestrated by those who were either threatened by God’s faithfulness upon his life and his political future.

Thanking God for his triumph over the EFCC, George Turnah, MON also appreciated all those who stood by him and supported him and his family during his time of travail, including Nigeria’s former President, Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, GCFR, the Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri whom he said God miraculously brought to become governor to help him as well as a number of others who God used to strengthen him.

According to him, his victory is God’s act of mercy in vindicating the innocent. George Turnah, MON also declared his forgiveness for all those who wronged him, saying what they meant for evil, God used it for his own good.

Top government functionaries at the event, including the Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri as well as federal and state lawmakers urged the younger generation and politicians to emulate the virtues and doggedness of George Turnah, saying the strength and will he possesses particularly in surmounting all the hurdles that were brought his path points to the fact that he is a channel of hope for Bayelsa State and Nigeria in general.

George Turnah, a godson of former President Goodluck Jonathan, a lawyer, holds the National Honour of Member of the Order of the Niger MON and has championed a lot of philanthropic causes in the Niger Delta Region through the George Turnah Foundation and Football Club that has produced so many Football Stars Nationally.
