Why Zamfara NNPP dismantles its structures in order to join APC
Ibekimi Oriamaja Reports
The Zamfara State chapter of the New Nigerian People’s Party (NNPP) has disbanded, with members of the new party joining Governor Bello Matawalle in the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). The NNPP’s Organising Secretary in the state, Babangida Haruna Damba, made this known when he led the state executive members of the NNPP on behalf of its Chairman, Muhammad Sani Anka, and the 10 local government party chairmen who decamped to APC at the Government House.
Declaring their intention to join the APC, Damba stated that they decided to dissolve the NNPP in order to join Governor Matawalle’s APC because the NNPP lacks internal democracy and focus, both of which are strong indicators that the party will not perform well in all contestable positions at the state and national levels in the upcoming 2023 general elections. He went on to say that the NNPP was doomed from the start in the state because it was perpetually engulfed by protracted crises because it was run by only one unpopular person. He went on to say that the NNPP presidential candidate is only running as a spoiler, ready to bury the party at the end of the elections.
Governor Matawalle expressed happiness and commended the defectors on their wise decision to join the APC while welcoming them to the APC at Government House. He stated that the APC will continue to receive more defectors and supporters in the state for a variety of reasons, including its fairness to all members, inclusiveness, love for peace, and provision of democratic dividends.
The governor assured the newcomers that they would always be treated and given equal opportunities as the older members and urged them to continue to be law-abiding as well as persuade more people to join the winning party so that they would not be left behind.
