Borno State Governor Babagana Umara Zulum has vowed that the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, will ensure that no opposition party wins any unit in the upcoming 2023 general elections.

The Governor made the remarks while speaking to party supporters and stakeholders at the inauguration of Campaign Council Chairmen, Secretaries, and over 800 members at the Government House in Maiduguri.

It is disheartening, he said, that some people seeking elective positions on the platform of the state’s dying Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, are now sneaking into Maiduguri with N500,000 or N600,000 in their possession, causing trouble in the form of calumny campaigns, forgetting that Borno is APC.

According to Zulum, the APC is not afraid of any opposition party, given that the state government under his leadership has done exceptionally well in the areas of security, job creation, youth and women empowerment, reconstruction, rehabilitation, and resettlement of millions of internally displaced persons, IDPs, back to their places of origin over the last three years.

For the first time, Zulum publicly apologized to former Vice President and PDP presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar, whose convoy was recently attacked by unidentified hoodlums during a campaign in Maiduguri.

“It is amusing to learn that some people who have not visited Borno in the last four years have begun to flock in to seek our people’s mandate in the upcoming general elections on the platforms of various opposition parties, particularly the dying PDP.”

“I want to state unequivocally that the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, will ensure that no opposition party wins any unit in the upcoming 2023 general elections.”

“In fact, it is disheartening that some people seeking elective positions in the state on the platform of a dying Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, are now sneaking into Maiduguri with about N500,000 or N600,000 in their possession, causing trouble in the form of calumny campaigns against our progressive party, forgetting that Borno is APC.”

“I want to state unequivocally that the APC is not afraid of any opposition party, given that the state government under my capable leadership has done marvelously well in the areas of security, job creation, youth and women empowerment, reconstruction, rehabilitation, and resettlement of millions of internally displaced persons, IDPs, back to their places of origin in the last three years.”

“However, I would like to take this opportunity to apologize to former Vice President and PDP presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar, whose convoy was recently attacked by unidentified hoodlums during a campaign in Maiduguri.” Zulum stated.

He therefore urged all Campaign Council members and party supporters to work tirelessly to ensure that the APC wins from top to bottom, as the government will provide them with all necessary support and reward them based on their contributions to the party.

Earlier in his welcome address, the party Chairman, Alhaji Ali Dalori, lauded the APC’s achievements in the state at all levels, which he said would make the committee’s job easier.

Hon. Muktari Aliyu Betara, member of the House of Representatives (Biu/Bayo/Kwaya Kusar/Shani federal constituency and also candidate for the 2023 general elections), and Chairman of the House Committee on Appropriation, was the only APC candidate who did not attend the inauguration.

“I’d like to thank the Governor for his exceptional performance as one of the best in the country, which has made our job easier.”

“However, I am very disappointed in Hon. Betara for refusing to attend the inauguration without offering an apology.”

“The APC is superior to any candidate because no one can win an election without running on a party platform.” So I want the people of Betara’s Constituency who are here to tell him that we are dissatisfied.” Dalori stated.

Sen. Ali Ndume, speaking on behalf of the committee’s members, stated that members were committed to delivering and relied heavily on the support and cooperation of party members across the state.
