President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday returned to Nigeria after participating in the 35th Ordinary Session of the Assembly of the Heads and Government of African Union held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

The President had joined other African leaders to discuss issues about the continent during their meeting held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

The news of the President’s departure from Addis Ababa to Abuja was shared on the official Facebook page of the government (Aso Rock Villa) alongside pictures of him departing the East African country.

It would be recalled that as part of his engagements during the summit, President Buhari on Saturday, said Nigeria will continue to pursue peace and progress in Africa, and other parts of the world, by consistently pushing for justice, fairness and inclusiveness in global affairs.

In a sideline meeting with the Prime Minister of Palestine, Mohammad Shtayyeh, at the African Union meetings, President Buhari said the country remains unwavering in supporting democracy, development and good governance, particularly in ensuring the rights of individuals and institutions.

“As a country we are doing our best, and we will continue doing our best to ensure justice and fairness,” he said.

The President assured the Palestinian leader that Nigeria will be “consistent” in pushing for peace and progress, while upholding the tenets of justice.

Also, the Nigerian leader received graphical details on the coup attempt to oust Guniea-Bissau President Umaru Sissoco Embalo.

Buhari’s spokesman, Femi Adesina confirmed this in a statement released on Sunday afternoon, Naija News reports.

It could be recalled that the attempted coup of President Embalo was aborted by loyalist forces.

Adesina, however, on Sunday (today) said Buhari was on Saturday presented the graphical representation of the aborted coup.

He said the President received the briefing while receiving updates on the sidelines of the African Union Summit of Heads of State and Government held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

Adesina said the President met with Senior Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Guinea-Bissau, Suzi Barbosa, “who gave a graphic presentation of the attempt to overthrow the constitutional order in her country.”
