According to Punch, a presidential candidate in the 2023 presidential election has asked the Court of Appeals to halt the inauguration of President-elect Bola Tinubu.

Candidate and constitutional attorney Ambrose Albert Owuru and his political party Hope Democratic Party (HDP) filed the new lawsuit, titled CA/CV/259/2023.

Owuru asked the Abuja Court of Appeal to block President Muhammadu Buhari, the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF), Abubakar Malami, and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from installing Tinubu as Nigeria’s new leader on May 29.

Base on the situation and the problem that are still on ground, court has been waiting for Tinubu arrival from France to conclude the issue, but since he arrive yesterday, they now order to stop the inauguration coming up may 29 so that they can put everything in order and verify who won the 2023 presidential election before swear in.

The president-elect had flown into France from Nigeria on March 21, a trip his campaign council said was meant to rest and plan ahead of his May 29 inauguration.

A statement by the APC Presidential Campaign Council in March noted that Tinubu had traveled to France to rest and plan his transition program after a very exhausting campaign and election season.

The President-elect had left the country Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja.

According to the statement, after the hectic campaigning and election season, the President-elect decided to take a break to rest in Paris and London in preparation for traveling to Saudi Arabia for Umrah (Minor Hajj) and Ramadan fasting, it says in the statement.

Meanwhile, the All Progressives Congress (APC) had dissolved its campaign council.

However, as of press time, no date has been set for the Court of Appeals to hear the lawsuit.
