Pressure Mounts On Tinubu As Powerful Northerners Move To Checkmate Him On Senate Presidency

There are strong indications that the president-elect’s strategists are taking a keen interest in who succeeds Bola Tinubu as the president of the Senate because the outcome of the numerous petitions contesting his election victory at the election tribunal is uncertain, TrackNews has learned.

This is as a result of Senators Godswill Akpabio, a former Senate Minority Leader and Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Mr. Adams Oshiomhole, a former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, the Senate Chief Whip, and Mr. Dave Umahi, the departing Governor of Ebonyi State, all of whom have remained serious candidates for the Senate Presidency.

Shehu Sani, a former senator from Kaduna North Central, has mocked northerners seeking the Senate’s top seat on social media.

According to sources, Bola Tinubu, the new president of Nigeria, received a significant number of votes from the northern part of the country, which contributed to his victory.

As senators, notably from the Southern and Northern regions, compete for important posts in the 10th National Assembly, there have been a number of disputes within the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Northern candidates asserted they were more deserving of the same Senate Presidency seat while Southern politicians claimed they were seeking the role out of a sense of equity.

Sen. Sani responded to the arguments in a post on his verified Twitter account on Tuesday, claiming that the same northerners who backed Tinubu now want to checkmate the President-elect.

The condition, according to the former congressman, is similar to someone who is in love but is both sceptical and terrified of it.

“The Northerners, who supported Asiwaju in his ascent to the throne, are now saying they want the Senate Presidency to checkmate him. It’s a clever political ruse. However, it’s similar to being in love while also experiencing uncertainty and fear. True love, it is said, is blind.

Sani voiced alarm about the economic condition in Nigeria in another post on the microblogging platform.

The Kaduna lawmaker believes that Nigerians’ lives may become more challenging in the future.

The economic ruin that this government will leave behind will undoubtedly make it more challenging for the average Nigerian to react to future economic events.

They won control by fraud and reckless borrowing, Sani said on Twitter, thus the time has come to pay.
