***TASKS NIGER DELTA YOUTH TO EMULATE BORO’S VIRTUES OF SACRIFICE AND SELFLESS SERVICE TO NATION BUILDING.
TRACKING>>Today, the Ijaw Nation and Ijaws all over the world celebrate a National Icon of gallantry, sacrifice, determination and purposeful leadership, in the person of the Maj. Isaac Jasper Adaka Boro of blessed memory. Boro has become not only a legend, but a demigod and rallying point for the Ijaws of the Niger Delta, his virtues and accomplishments invigorates the old, and summons the youth to duty and selfless sacrifice.
According to the SA Media/Publicity to the Acting MD, Barr. Igbeta Ayebakuro, said
Many outside of the Niger Delta may not know that long before the present day struggle for resource control and economic emancipation of the Niger Delta people, Boro had even before the Biafra war demanded for the political and economic liberation of his people. His fearless personality, gut, zeal and charisma in the pursuit for the well-being of his people has hence become a binding force for the Ijaws, his virtues are strings that tie us together even when dialectic, tribal and ethnic politics cum personal interests may at some point tend to challenge our united heritage and resolve to march on as a people. Boro is remembered in the Ijaw Nation today, for many things, but we can assure he has become a demigod in his own right, his image a totem, and his name now a trumpet that invites us to reason and sacrifice, in same vein the strength behind the courageous chants at National forum and a model for the youth who seek to accomplish great deeds just like he did.
Today, the onus falls on every Ijaw son and daughter, to continue in the shadow of this great man, more so we must also understand that Icons like Boro though may had used violent approach in the accomplishment of this great feat, but today the struggle has taken another dimension, a twist that calls for the pen struggle, calm minds and not hotheads, therefor in order not to fail our forebears, our youth must flow with the tide, and compass should only point to thoughtful thinking, reason, negotiation, and to intellectual superiority, of course the sage remain true that the pen is mightier than the sword. It is on this premise I invite youth of the Ijaw Nation and Niger Delta in general to embrace the search for knowledge as it remains the key to winning every battle, and the undeniable threshold to power.
As the We celebrate, I call for calm. People should not taint the good image with bloodletting, looting, destruction or any such vice that may be contrary to the struggle, and Boro’s image. I wish the Ijaws a great day of Celebration, as we continue to partners with other ethnic Nationalities to build the Niger Delta of our dream, and to make for a Nigeria our children and generations to follow would be proud to call theirs.
