The Enugu State Progressive Alliance (UEPA) unanimously declared their support for all Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidates in the 2023 general election yesterday.
Members of the group stated that their decision to support the PDP was motivated by their admiration for Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, the PDP’s leader in Enugu State and the South East geopolitical zone.
Speaking at the 4th phase of UEPA’s empowerment programme in support of Ugwuanyi’s administration, the group’s Director General, Ozo Onyebuchi Ani, stated that they were overwhelmed by the governor’s leadership qualities and his good works in Enugu State despite the state’s limited resources and the nation’s economic, security, and public health challenges.
Ani emphasized that Ugwuanyi, who attended the event, became governor during a difficult period in the nation’s economic development, but has managed Enugu State’s affairs peacefully and successfully.
The Director General maintained that it was commendable that the governor, despite the nation’s numerous challenges, led Enugu State out of two economic recessions in five years to record milestone achievements in various sectors of development, most notably peace, security, health, education, workers’ welfare, road infrastructure, and rural development.
Ani stated that it was unfortunate that some people with ulterior motives refused to acknowledge Ugwuanyi’s good works despite the challenges he faced on the ground when he assumed office, assuring that “we will continue to follow you (Ugwuanyi), as governor of Enugu State, and as a Senator in 2023, in Jesus name, Amen.”
The Director General added to the governor’s steadfastness, resilience, and visionary approach to the state’s progress, saying, “You have done well in spite of the nation’s economic challenges.” You took office when the country’s economy was in shambles, but you managed the state’s affairs peacefully and successfully. Anyone who undermines your efforts has a hidden agenda.”
Ani praised Ugwuanyi for emergence of a youth from Udi/Ezeagu Federal Constituency, Engr. Osita Ngwu (RG), as the PDP candidate for Enugu West Senatorial District and the Patron of UEPA cum former Chief of Staff of the governor, Rt. Hon. Dr. Festus Uzor, as the PDP candidate for Udi/Ezeagu Federal Constituency, and urged the governor to remain stead
Ani revealed that UEPA had empowered approximately 80% of its members, explaining that the fourth phase of the empowerment programme arose from their firm determination as a socio-cultural organization to continue to empower their members on a regular basis.
“We have invited a resource person in the person of Chief Eric N. Ozongwu, MD, NONET Palms Nig. Ltd, to educate us on “Palm Production and Wealth Creation” so that we can slightly vary the method of this current programme to the advantage of today’s beneficiaries,” the Director General said, revealing the theme of the empowerment programme as “Palm Production and Wealth Creation.” It is in our best interests not only to provide funds to members, but also to add some value.”
