Ibekimi Oriamaja Reports

The minority caucus in the House of Representatives has urged the federal government to swiftly end the Academic Staff Union of Universities’ ongoing strike so that Nigerian students enrolled in public universities can resume their studies.

Additionally, the caucus wants the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and other electoral process participants to set up mechanisms to guarantee credible and orderly general elections in 2023.

To commemorate the 62nd anniversary of the country’s independence, Rep. Ndudi Elumelu, the minority leader, signed a statement in which the caucus also urged Nigerians to band together and create a unified front to free their nation from the APC’s political and economic shackles (APC). The Minority Caucus applauds Nigerians’ tenacity and dedication to national peace and development in the face of economic hardship, crumbling infrastructure, increased insecurity, unrelenting acts of terrorism, and state-backed abuses and violations brought on by the APC’s ineffective, dishonest, and divisive rule.

According to the statement, “In the last seven years, Nigerians have endured the most trying time in our country’s history, one in which they have been subjected to experiences that will change their lives forever, including the erosion of their personal freedom and liberty, which has tarnished the very meaning of their independence within a democratic framework.

In light of this, on May 29, 2023, we must approach the general elections with an unwavering commitment to restore and save our country by toppling the APC and democratically installing a purposeful and people-centered administration.
