Rights groups, including Human Rights Watch and the United Nations Committee on Migrant Workers have deplored the incidents that led to the deaths of at least 23 migrants as they tried to cross the border from Morocco into the Spanish enclave of Melilla last Friday, June 24.

In a statement on Wednesday, Human Rights Watch said that the death of at least 23 African men at the Melilla-Morocco border requires an independent, impartial investigation capable of determining what occurred and who bears responsibility for such loss of life.
